Last Saturday was another close call for the blog selections with Knockanrawley running a brave race to be 2nd in the Eider Chase.
At one point before the leading pair approached the final fence I thought Knockanrawley had the capability of pegging-back the eventual winner Mysteree, but it was not to be. I think the horse has the potential to improve on this run as his jumping wasn't fluent and he had to be ridden-into the fences to make a decent leap. He looks capable of picking-up one of these marathon chase races.
It was disappointing to see our other selection Three Musketeers not manage to place, at least. He was let down by his jumping which was poor throughout the race, and he made a particularly bad error at the 13th of 18 fences which cost him a lot of ground. To his credit, he has a lot of tactical speed, and he made-up ground very quickly entering the straight to give me the impression that he may even be in with a chance of troubling the leaders. Unfortunately, this 3-mile trip found him out and his tank was empty on the run-up to the final fence so he was only able to keep-on.
In my opinion, Three Musketeers is a winner waiting to happen as he looks a lot better than his OR152 rating, but he may need to drop back to 2m5f or 2m6f to show him at his best.
